GOVERNOR MILLER, YOU HAVE FAILED!

Many organizations like the labor unions and the teachers unions grade our elected officials. HUNTER'S ALERT would like to grade Governor Miller on his effectiveness in office. For the sportsmen in our state, your grade is "F". You have failed them miserably.

Dear HUNTER'S ALERT members:

Dear HUNTER'S ALERT members:

I have truly enjoyed being involved with this great association. Thanks to HUNTER'S ALERT many great and exciting things are in store for the sportsman in Nevada. Working hand in hand with the Board of Directors we have developed a strategy for success during the 1995 Legislative session. We have had tremendous success in taking our message to Nevada's legislators. They are beginning to realize that HUNTER'S ALERT is the voice of the Nevada sportsman. ...

Editorial

Recently HUNTER'S ALERT attended the Friends of National Rifle Association banquet in Las Vegas. We sat at a table with some strangers and after introducing ourselves, of course the conversation turned to guns, hunting, and politics.

Pastor Martin Niemoller made the following statement at the time of his arrest by the Gestapo in 1937:

"In Germany, they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist. Then, they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Catholics, I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then, they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak up.

To paraphrase:

"In America, they came first for the m...

OUR READERS WRITE...

We continue to get many comments from disgruntled sportsmen throughout our state. They are disgusted with Nevada Division of Wildlife and its direction. Our viewpoint has been criticized by some as a one person vendetta against NDOW But judging by the mail we receive, that criticism would seem to be unrealistic. The letters we receive are straight from the heart, unsolicited comments. Can hundreds of people be wrong? We don't think so! Just keep those comments coming. NDOW and the Wildlife C...

KNOW YOUR CANDIDATES

HUNTER'S ALERT endorses the following candidates for public office. Our decision was based on the candidates' support of our legislative agenda which includes legislation to return to a Department of Fish and Game concept where all monies derived from hunting and fishing licenses, tags, stamps and matching funds are returned to hunting and fishing programs. Please support these candidates as they understand our concerns and support our issues.

Sincerely,

Cecil Fredi,

President, HUNTERS ALE...

FEAR OF REPRISAL

Many guides have come forth acknowledging what a serious predator problem we have in our state but they were reluctant to put it in writing because of fear of reprisal from NDOW. Doesn't that bring to mind visions of World War II Nazi SS troops who persecuted people for speaking out against their government? We have secured statements from some of these guides with the promise that we will not use their names for fear of reprisal. We will call them Guides A, B and C. Below are their stories.

Reprinted from OUTDOOR LIFE, October, 1994

The 1992-93 winter-on the heels of a six-year drought in many states-triggered the mule deer decline, say wildlife officials in all affected states. But deeper-rooted factors led up to the collapse. Increasing numbers of predators played a hand, and politically driven, short-sighted management was also to blame.

WHAT IS THE BEST CALIBER?

While sitting around the campfire one evening an old rancher posed this question to us. What was the best caliber of gun for game? Of course, this isn't a one caliber answer. Obviously, you don't take a 17 caliber to hunt elephants or a .458 to hunt squirrel. After everyone gave their pitch for his favorite caliber, the old rancher settled the dispute. What was the best caliber for game? The old man said a 22 single shot. Of course, there were snickers and hoots. But he went on to explai...

Another reason to vote for John Ensign! ...Jim Bilbray wanted to outlaw rodeos (Animal rights supporter) until he found out that Las Vegas hosts the National Finals Rodeo bringing millions of dollars to our state. Another reason to vote for John Ensign!

A BOOK WORTH READING

Finally, someone has the intestinal fortitude to expose the animal rights groups for what they really are. Kathleen Marquardt has written a book called "Animal Scam". It is a must read for all hunters, trappers and ranchers. To order the book, call (406) 442-5700. Following are a few excerpts from "Animal Scam".

HUNTER'S ALERT RIGHT AGAIN!

For years we have stated that it doesn't do any good to attend a Wildlife Commission meeting. Never was that more evident than at the October meeting. Even at the outset, Chairman Brown determined that he did not want to waste time with facts. The Wildlife Commission voted to give our sheep to Texas against the wishes of the majority of Nevadans. They forgot about government by the people, for the people. Instead, they displayed government for the private interest.

State hunting: Past, present,—future!

Sept. 1 is coming up quickly. This date has always been greatly anticipated by area hunters. It's the opening day of dove season, the start of fall hunting. Times change; my hunter instinct has mellowed with age, but my son's are just budding. My oldest boy will experience his first Nevada deer hunt this season. He will be the fifth generation of his family to hunt here; his great-great grandfather lived and hunted in Lincoln County in the 1870's.
