HUNTER'S ALERT, Nevada Hunters Association, and The Nevada State Rifle and Pistol Association are in agreement when it comes to the fact that many fine organizations in our state are being misled by the Coalition for Nevada's Wildlife. First and foremost, we do believe that a coalition is necessary to save our hunting rights. We do not, however, believe that a coalition Should be formed to represent their self-serving claims while stating that they are representing many outdoor organizations

Who is The Coalition? They are nothing more than a mouthpiece for the Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW). Their lobbyist, Fred Wright, is a retired employee of NDOW. In the previous session of Nevada legislature, Mr. Wright actually represented himself as a lobbyist for NDOW, The major funding for The Coalition is provided by Nevada Bighorns Unlimited. This organization is and has been an advocate for Nevada Department of Wildlife director Will Molini. They receive the only tag given to Nevada organizations to be auctioned for bighorn sheep every year The auction and the banquet that accompanies it is their major fundraiser. This is a conflict of interest that makes it unlikely that they would ever be critical of NDOW or seek any reforms contrary to the wishes of Mr. Molini.

Are you aware that Nevada Bighorns Unlimited opposed legislation in the 1991 legislative session that finally added two more sportsmen to the Nevada Wildlife Commission? Did you know that they aligned themselves with the Animal Alliance and the Humane Society on this issue? Is this really the type of representation your organization wants? In the 1993 legislative session these people supported every proposal that NDOW wanted, including making it unlikely that you would get a replacement tag if you killed a diseased animal. Was your organization ever informed in advance of the Coalition's intentions to either support or oppose the bills of importance to your group?

If you were receiving perks such as the privilege of auctioning a sheep tag or being invited to accompany Nevada Department of Wildlife officials on helicopter animal counts, then you would probably think NDOW is doing a good job. But if you are like the majority of Nevadans who want better hunting and fishing and you receive none of these privileges, we would urge you to join one or all of our three organizations. We receive no special perks from NDOW nor do we want any. What we want and what we stand for is more game for Nevadans, having real sportsmen appointed to the Wildlife Commission, having hunting and fishing fees spent on hunting and fishing improvement programs, having serious predator control programs, and establishing a game management department independent of the Nevada Department of Wildlife. If these are ideas you support you should contact HUNTER'S ALERT, Nevada Hunters Association, and Nevada State Rifle and Pistol Association and give them your support.
