About March 20th, 19941 was in the North end of Area 23 hunting for deer and elk drops. I came upon a huge cedar tree with the bark ripped off the trunk and looked under it and saw a large hump with some fur sticking out, I uncovered it and found a full grown coyote just killed by a cougar, the intestines were eaten up and the rest of it was buried under dirt and branches. For the next few hours I saw at least six different cougar tracks in a twenty mile stretch. This area I was in is the wintering area for the deer that migrate from Wheeler Mountain. Ten years ago I saw between 300-400 head of deer. This year 1 saw 12 deer total in this area. I guess the cougar is winning the war. Thank you, Lewis Lytle Las Vegas Editor's note: Now that the predators have eaten most of our game, they are now eating each other just to survive.
