• Assemblymen David Humke and Larry Spitler: All sportsmen should be grateful for their efforts. These two fine assemblymen have worked hard to improve hunting and fishing in this state. We need more representatives like them. • Senators Jack Regan and Ray Shaffer: They were the only two democrats to vote for passage of A.B.307. Governor Miller, also a democrat, put intense pressure on them to vote against it. They had the courage to vote for better government, not politics as usual. • Assemblyman Pete Ernaut: The Republican floor leader showed tremendous strength and political savvy. When Governor Miller threatened to veto A.B.307, Assemblyman Ernaut held up A.B.212 which increases hunting and fishing licenses. Republicans campaigned against tax increases and Pete Ernaut stuck to that commitment. • Assemblyman John Carpenter: Although John did not sponsor A.B.307, nobody worked harder tc insure its passage. He stuck his neck out to see this bill signed into law. • Assemblyman Dennis Allard: Dennis was absolutely essential t( getting this bill through Ways & Means. • Assemblyman Brian Sandoval and Jack Close: These freshmen showed incredible leadership wher the going got tough. • Senator Dean Rhoads: The chairman of Senate Natural Resources went the extra mile and stood by his guns when the pressure was on. • Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick: The co-speaker did a great job of pulling the republicans together. ZEROS- Marcia de Braga-Fallon (D)
- Chris Giunchigliani-Las Vegas (D)
- Bill Raggio-Reno (R)
- Pete Morros-Carson City
• Assemblyman Marcia de Braga: Assemblyman de Braga did not want her county game advisory board members to have a hand in selecting the Wildlife Commissioners. She amended that part out of the bill. She went against the wishes of her constituents. HUNTER'S ALERT will be reminding the voters of her district next election. • Assemblyman Chris Giunchigliani Chris let us down again. In 1991, she voted against having a fair big game tag draw. In 1995, of the 42 assemblymen to vote on A.B.307, only two voted against it, Chris Giunchigliani and David Goldwater. Goldwater admitted he made a mistake and HUNTER'S ALERT will accept that. In the last election, HUNTER'S ALERT campaigned against Giunchigliani and the results of that election were so close that it required a recount HUNTER'S ALERT will work harder next time! • Senator Bill Raggio: Raggio was the only Republican to vote against A.B.307. We were very disappointed in Senator Raggio. • Pete Morros: Pete Morros is not an elected official. However, he needs mention. He is director of Conservation and Natural Resources and has ten divisions under his administration. One of the divisions is the Nevada Division of Forestry. In March 1995 a legislative audit was completed on this division. The results of that audit were one of the worst ever reported in our state. Part of A.B.3O7 was to provide that the Wildlife Commission have approval over Nevada Division of Wildlife's budget. Pete Morros testified that he had all those divisions under his direction and no boards or commissions had approval of their budgets and he didn't want it now. WAKE UP PETE! During the hearing on A.B.307, testimony indicated that this was the one portion of the bill favored by the Wildlife Commission.
