HEROES

Assemblyman David Humke
Senator Jack Regan
Senator Ann O'Connell

Assemblyman David Humke is one of the finest representatives the sportsmen could have in Carson City. He does not let the giants step on him when it comes to representing the sportsmen. The sportsmen need a few more David Humkes in Carson City.

Senator Jack Regan. When Governor Miller told all of the democrats to vote against SB 127, all but one of them did. However, one democrat decided to represent the sportsmen and not the governor, and that was Jack Regan. The sportsmen applaud him for making the right choice.

Senator Ann O'Connell was the chief sponsor of SB127. She attended numerous sportsmen's activities and knew the problems that they were having. This is what Senator O'Connell told the Senate Natural Resources Committee when the bill was heard:

ZEROS

GovernorBob Miller
Willie Moloni

literally hundreds of sportsmen and women from the southern Nevada area. As you know, Mr. Chairman, we had a similar bill before the legislature last session. And it was watered down so that it really did little to address the concerns of the people involved with this issue. In spite of the fact that Nevada has some of the highest hunting and fishing fees in the west, we are constantly subsidizing the budget because of their shortages in this agency. The hunters from the southern end of the state feel that they have been disenfranchised by the board. They are literally fighting mad over their inability to have any input as well as representation on this board. In other words, Mr. Chairman, they are here today asking your committee for a legislative remedy to help them to get politics out of this division and restore it to the rightful owners, the men and women who care enough about these sports to fight for what is right and what is fair. I don't believe that there is any pride in our authorship of this bill.

However, I hope this committee recognizes the shameful contempt that this division has shown to the very people it owes its livelihood to and I ask that you address either in this bill or in another measure the very serious problems that are facing the sportsmen of this state. And I'm sure that you all are aware that, in fact, I heard you announce, Mr. Chairman, that there are going to be amendments offered to this bill. I believe that Judge Mosley has them because it is not the wish of these sportspeople to create any division. They are trying to bring unity to this issue and it's just out of frustration that you have this issue before you. I wish to thank you for hearing us out on this and I really need to get back to my committee. Right now we've got a room packed. And I'm going to turn it over to the very capable hands of Judge Mosley who will walk you through the bill and certainly address the amendments for you. Thank you."

Thank you, Senator O'Connell. It could not have been stated any better. The sportsmen in our state need to support these three heroes, not only with our votes but with financial help to ensure that they remain in office.

Governor Bob Miller. If it's not a basketball, Governor Bob Miller does not recognize it as a sport. Well, nothing has changed with the Governor when he chose to veto SB 127. The

governor called the people behind SB 127 "extremists." Are they extremists because they want to bring back our deer herds? Since Governor Miller has been in office, we have lost 68% of these deer herds and the $4 million in revenue that goes with that loss. Now, Governor Miller, that is an extreme loss to the sportsmen in our state.

SB 127 would have let the county advisory boards have a say in who the governor appoints to the Wildlife Commission. This is what Governor Miller objected to in the bill. Well guess what, readers? On May 7, Governor Miller sent a letter to the county advisory boards and requested "recommendations from your advisory board for the upcoming vacancies on the Nevada Wildlife Commission...Your board's recommendation for either reappointment or replacement would be greatly appreciated." This is exactly what SB127 was all about! Then on July 1, he vetoed the bill. This does not make any sense but then for the last nine years, when it comes to helping the sportsmen or the game in our state, Governor Miller has not made any sense.

Willie Molini. Willie Molini' s zero classification is well deserved for his proposal of Assembly Bill 47. this bill would have let the wildlife commissioners set tag fees up to $200. For him to even consider pricing future hunters out of the sport is shameful.
