What did you do for hunting last year? Did you take a child hunting? That's a good deed because the children of today will carry on hunting in the future. Maybe you supported one of the many organizations which promote a species of game bird or animal. For the most part they are organizations who want to do good things for a particular game bird or animal However good these activities are, they are not enough to overcome the antihunting groups or bring back our game numbers.
If you truly want to do good things for hunters you must get involved. Last year did you write any letters to the editor when an antihunting article appeared in a magazine or newspaper? Did you attend a county wildlife advisory board meeting or Wildlife Commission meeting to voice your concerns about hunting issues? Did you let your state senator or assemblyperson know how you feel about your sport? If you answered no to these questions, then you really didn't get involved. If you rely on someone else then hunting and hunters will be the losers. This is a pivotal year for Nevada hunters. We can continue with our declining game numbers or do something about it. The choice is yours. The time to get involved is now. And here is what you can do. First, call 1-800-978-2878. Ask for your senator. Be polite and tell them you want Senate Bill 211 passed in its entirety. Tell them hunting in your state has been going downhill for years. Or whatever you choose to say. Next, dial the same number and ask for your Assemblyperson and repeat what you told your senator. After you have done this, you will have a feeling of accomplishment. It is the feeling you get when you depart a voting booth after you have cast your ballot. In other words, you have done your part.
