Once again, sportsman representative Jelindo Tiberti has shown his ignorance on wildlife issues. In our last newsletter we told you of some of his blunders and screwups. For the sake of not being repetitive ( and it will take up too much space in the newsletter) we are not going to repeat them.
His latest reason for not representing sportsmen was given at the December 1999 meeting of the Clark County Advisory Board to Manage Wildlife. Agenda Item #12 was heard once again which would allow zero power scopes on muzzleloaders. A scope with no magnification is not giving the shooter any advantage, merely another type of sight. Some people, particularly older ones with bad eyes have a hard time lining up the open sights. It was for this reason \hat zero power scopes on muzzleloaders had been proposed once before. Being a sportsmen's representative who rarely listens to the sportsmen, Commissioner Tiberti voted against this proposal. At this meeting, he told us why he voted against this measure. Following is Jelindo Tiberti's explanation taken from the tape of the meeting. Tiberti: "Wait a minute. Let me tell you why I said this all along. In the past, okay, the past was why I've said this all along, why I've been against scopes on muzzleloaders was due to the fact that I would like to see more hunters out in the field. If scopes on muzzleloaders make it more accurate then you're going to have more kill. With muzzleloaders which is gonna increase success, which is going to decrease the tags eventually. Less hunters out in the field..." That is the most ridiculous statement that anyone could make. What kind of a feeble excuse is this, that the use of a zero power scope will decimate our deer herds? The real decimation of our deer herds is predators. If Mr. Tiberti truly wanted to see more hunters out in the field, he would have done something about predators seven years ago! Jelindo Tiberti met with HUNTER'S ALERT president Cecil Fredi before he ever attended his first Wildlife Commission meeting. Jelindo was told about our predator problem at that meeting. What has Jelindo Tiberti done about our predator problem in his seven years on the Wildlife Commission? Absolutely nothing!! Willie Molini was Jelindo Tiberti's mentor and Jelindo has made statements that we have no documented proof that we have a predator problem in our state. (Sounds like Willie, doesn't it?) In other words, Jelindo Tiberti doesn't believe two thousand sportsmen who sent post cards about our predator problem nor does he believe what he hears at the Advisory Board meetings. In other words, Jelindo Tiberti does not listen to sportsmen, something HUNTER'S ALERT has been saying for years. Jelindo Tiberti has wasted seven years of sportsmen's representation. In our Fall, 1997 newsletter, HUNTER'S ALERT told Jelindo Tiberti that for the best interests of the sportsmen of Nevada, he should tender his resignation. Over two years later, nothing has changed. The best thing that Jelindo Tiberti could do for sportsmen is to resign immediately.
