The lead story in this issue says it all. We now have a governor who is concerned and listens to sportsmen. Former Governor Bob Miller was a disgrace to the sportsmen. He continually protected former NDOW administrator Willie Molini. It was Willie Molini's mismanagement that put our deer herds at an all time low.
The Wildlife commissioners could have prevented this as it is their job to set policy for NDOW. Bob Miller chose to put his friends on the Wildlife Commission, not people who were knowledgeable. Currently, one third of his appointments on the Wildlife Commission had never attended a Wildlife Advisory Board or Wildlife Commission meeting before their appointments to the Commission. Governor Kenny Guinn took the County Advisory Boards' recommendations. Unlike his predecessor Bob Miller, he did not appoint his political cronies. Governor Guinn has appointed people who have experience with wildlife matters. This is a big step in the right direction to clean up the mess that former administrator Willie Molini and Bob Miller left behind.
