Sportsmen need to compare Jon Porter and Shelley Berkley and see who will best represent them in Washington, D.C. First, let's discuss Jon Porter. While Jon Porter was a senator serving in the Nevada Legislature, he supported HUNTER'S ALERT's legislative bills 100% of the time. He never wavered on sportsmen's issues. How does Jon Porter feel about gun ownership? Well, the National Rifle Association (NRA) formally endorsed and donated money to his campaign. That alone should tell you how strong his beliefs are regarding gun ownership. These two issues alone are sufficient reasons to vote for Jon Porter!

Now let's examine what Shelley Berkley has done. Last June, she voted to endorse President Clinton's designation of eight areas in the west as national monuments. This will result in a major loss of lands for hunters. In addition, there were no public hearings on this issue. In other words, this was done as a dictator would do it and she approved of it. This is something you would expect from a congresswoman from the east but certainly not one from Nevada.

But Shelley Berkley not only wants to take your land. She also wants to take your guns. Shelley Berkley would have you believe she supports the second amendment but her voting record says otherwise. Last year, she voted against second amendment rights on two separate occasions. In H.R.2122, there was an amendment to permit citizens of the District of Columbia who have not been jailed for any crime and who have not committed any violent crime, to own a handgun and keep it in their home. Shelley Berkley voted no on this. The same bill had an amendment to repeal the law which prohibits District of Columbia residents from possessing a firearm. Shelley Berkley voted no on this. This is pure and simple voting against the second amendment

How bad has Shelley Berkley been for gun owners? The National Rifle Association (NRA) had thirteen key House votes and Shelley Berkley voted against twelve of them. Even more proof that Shelley Berkley is anti-gun, she has accepted $5000.00 from Handgun Control, an organization that wants to take away your guns.

Two of the most antihunting organizations are The Fund for Animals and The Humane

Society of the United States (HSU S). They issue a scorecard rating all of the senators and congressmen in Washington. D.C. How did Shelley Berkley fare with these two animal extremist organizations? They gave her a 100% rating which means she voted for them every time. She voted to cut funding to Wildlife Services which does predator control in western states. (Isn't Nevada a western state?) In addition, she voted to cut funding of programs that allow commercial or recreational trapping on national wildlife refuges. Once again, doesn't this sound like a congresswoman from back east?

We have given you many reasons not to vote for Shelley Berkley. If you are a sportsman or use the land for outdoor activities, would like to be able to keep your guns and believe in the second amendment, the choice is clear. Vote for Jon Porter.
