The first year of service to the State of Nevada on the Wildlife Commission has come and gone like the hunting and fishing seasons - too quickly. Time goes fast when you are having fun...I have been busy working with some great people who give unselfishly of their time and effort. The Overton Conservation Society, NDOW staff, as well as the Clark County Advisory Board members and others have made mega volunteer efforts to begin the process of upgrading and developing the seventeen thousand plus acres known as the Overton Wildlife Management Area in southern Nevada...a mere sixty minutes from Las Vegas...into a first rate wildlife recreational area for all outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Some of the many who deserve a special thanks include Wildlife Commissioner Tommy Ford, Cecil Fredi, Pete Liakopoulos, Dan Swanson, Shawn Fairbairn, Keith Brost, Doug Hunt, Brad Hardenbrook, Terry Crawforth, The Boy Scouts of America, the Carpenters Union, Denny Selleck, Clark County Commissioners Bruce Woodbury and Mary Kincaid to name a few who are involved in this undertaking. Progress is finally getting underway with new improvements taking place and more planned in the near future thanks to these folks and many others.

New duck blinds, new bathrooms, new signage and new check-in stations are a few projects already undertaken anc1 currently taking place. Trash removal ano

cleanup and road repairs as well as Ducks Unlimited expressing interest in partnering up to expand both new wetlands and dry field areas with additional blinds, are all in the works.

A contemplated transplant and monitoring of new geese to the area for later in the season is considered and the ducks, dove and turkeys seem to be doing great. The Wildlife Commission has set its two day meeting for March 23 and 24 in Overton and a tour and outdoor barbeque at the OWMA picnic grounds is being planned as well.

Thanks to all involved!! Home means Nevada, but it also means solid volunteer efforts of dedicated Nevadans who care about our natural resources in our State.
