So you went to a sportsmen's banquet, you know, one of those organizations who do good things for big game, fish or birds. You paid too much for a ticket but you were doing the right thing. You bought $100 worth of raffle tickets knowing you probably weren't going to win anything. Maybe you even paid $700 for a $500 gun in the auction. But you knew you were doing something good for hunting, but were you?
Just what was this organization going to do for you as a hunter? For the most part-—nothing. In some way, maybe, you have helped a natural resource. But what did this organization do for hunters or hunting? That's the real question that deserves an answer. HUNTER'S ALERT, Nevada Hunters Association and Safari Club International have a proven record of doing something for hunters. They are involved in legislative agendas to protect hunters ana their rights. They are involved in politics which the majority of sportsmen's organizations do not get involved in. Now is the time, before reaching into your wallet, to ask the following questions about your favorite sportsmen's organization. Number one: Who gets paid and how much? If your organization is truly dedicated to the cause, no one should be paid other than expenses. Number two: How much money has your organization raised in Nevada and how much was spent in Nevada? Number three: Ask to see the books.. If there is nothing to hide, they will gladly honor this request. And finally, the most important question to ask: What has this organization done for hunters or hunters' rights in the State of Nevada? Remember, the ducks, the sheep and the elk are not the endangered species. It is the hunter and for that reason, your money should be spent on saving the hunter as they will be gone before the ducks, sheep and elk.
