It is just about as simple as it can be. Take away your land and you lose the opportunity to go hunting. This is exactly what is going to happen if Harry Reid is re-elected to the U.S. Senate. You see. Harry Reid is a wilderness freak. In 1989. Harry Reid was instrumental in assuring that Nevada had 733. 400 acres of Forest Service wilderness crammed down then throats He is not going to stop there
On May 31, 1996 the Las Vegas Review Journal printed a story (with three pictures) about Harry Reid and his wilderness proposals. HUNTER'S ALERT wants to show you how a double set of standards exists when it comes to Senator Harry Reid.
Many of you are receiving the HUNTER'S ALERT newsletter for the first time HUNTER'S ALERT thought it was important to send this newsletter to you because YOU are important. You are important because you are a hunter who is a registered voter. There are over 37.000 hunters who vote in our state. This is a very large number and much can be accomplished if hunters vote for candidates who are supportive of hunting issues.
listed below because they have proven to be supportive of hunting.
- U.S. SENATE: John Ensign
- U.S. HOUSE, DIST. 1: Don Chairez
- U.S. HOUSE, DIST. 2: Jim Gibbons
For the past 28 months, I have attended many sportsmen's functions. Organizations like Nevada Hunters Association, Hunter's Alert and Safari Club International and others have voiced their concerns about hunting in our state. 1 have learned from these meetings that hunting, fishing, and related activities are of the utmost importance to a great many Nevadans.
According to environmental extremist Marjorie Sill of the Sierra Club, U.S. Senator Harry Reid is "anxious" to lock up even more Nevada public lands from Nevada citizens and keep it in the federal government's hands.
The Toiyabe Chapter of the Sierra Club and "Friends of Nevada Wilderness". (both of which combined have about a dozen active members) are calling for Congress to take away seven million acres of the choicest pieces of Nevada's public lands. And Harry Reid is supportive.
It was a team effort and it was a huge success. This year we were approached by Mary and Jim Burns who graciously donated the use of their lovely ranch, Burns Hermitage, to HUNTER'S ALERT so that children could experience the outdoors in a positive educational weekend trip Next we needed to be certain that we had responsible instructors and chaperones for such an experience. We found those people in Pat and Bob Snider and Virginia Frehner. They were more than willing to involve themselves in the planning and execution of a new challenge. Next, there was the big question, funding.
Prior to the November 1992 election, HUNTER'S ALERT sent Harry Reid a letter asking the following: The Bureau of Land Management has a proposal for wilderness in Nevada. Are you going to favor their proposal or ask for an increase or decrease in their proposal? Senator Harry Reid failed to respond to our inquiry. This should send a very clear message that Harry wants to hurt not only the hunters but the fishermen, rock hounds and all multiple land users including the handicapped.
In an article that appeared in the May 31. 1996 Las Vegas Review Journal, Harry Reid said he intended to present Congress with a plan to designate millions of acres of roadless (emphasis added) lands in Nevada as official wilderness areas that would protect them from intrusion by motor vehicles and mechanized forms of travel such as mountain bikes.
Two "slick Willies" are on their way out - one for certain, Willie Molini, Nevada Division of Wildlife Chief, who is finally being forced to retire by Governor Bob Miller; the other, our amorous president, who is rapidly finding himself friendless. Rats always instinctively know when it's time to abandon a sinking ship.
