Wildlife commissioners let sportsmen down
The future of Nevada deer hunting is bleak. It has taken years of mismanagement by Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) to destroy our once famous deer herds. And it will take years for these herds to recover. The fault lies with the Wildlife Commission, former administrator Willie Molini and current director Terry Crawforth. Terry Crawforth has held this position for five years. Let’s review his list of non-accomplishments during his tenure.
TIME FOR A CHANGE
It just hasn't worked and we need to return to a Department of Fish and Game. During the 1993 legislative session, former Governor Bob Miller consolidated state agencies. This has proven disastrous to the sportsmen in the state of Nevada. Since consolidation, Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW) has been one of nine state agencies put under the umbrella of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Its director is Pete Morros. There is not a single person who can do the job efficiently for nine state agencies. And Pete Morros has proven this many times over.
Politics Picks New NDOW Administrator
Not one sportsmen's organization in the state endorsed Terry Crawforth to replace Willie Molini as administrator of the Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW). Even the Wildlife commissioners rated him third in a three horse race. How did he get chosen? It was good old politics at its worst.
NDOW Auditor reports missing game tags, cash
"Evidence of improper practices" has prompted the legislative auditor to send a rare "218" letter to the governor and each state legislator alerting them that "the integrity of the fiscal records" of Nevada Division of Wildlife is "in question."
RELIEF AT LAST!!!
This is the year. It could be one of the best years for Nevada sportsmen. All the sportsmen have to do is to get involved because this is an election year. This the year sportsmen clean house. Sportsmen will be rid of their nemeses Bob Miller, administrator Willie Molini. his boss Pete Morros and attorney general Frankie Sue Del Papa. For sure, three of them are going and hopefully. Frankie Sue will join them.
NDOW Hires Poachers
In September 1997, Pete Morros and Willie Molini signed a contract with Helicopter Wildlife Management. The contract was to capture big game using a hand-held net gun fired from a helicopter and deliver animals to a receiving location for relocation. Two months later, the owner of Helicopter Wildlife Management, the pilot and the netgunner were arrested for unlawful possession of a Nevada elk. Word of the illegal activities came to NDOW through information provided by a citizen in early November. NDOW warden Eric Williams stated "Without the information provided by the concerned citizen, we would not have even known about these alleged illegal activities. HUNTER'S ALERT wonders if NDOW had discovered the illegal elk on its own without the third party reporting it, would NDOW have even charged the people they contracted with? The bottom line is that NDOW hired the people involved and now they get credit for busting alleged poachers!
And The Farmer Hauled Another Load of Hay
(You could tell by the smell that it wasn't hay!)
No one really praises the Nevada Division of Wildlife other than those people who receive favors from the Division. It is for this reason that NDOW created their own intradepartmental publication called "Wild Side". In the January-February 1998 issue, one of the feature stories was "Administrator to Retire" by Dave Rice. We all know the administrator. Willie Molini, the person responsible for the destruction of our game. Dave Rice is the conservation/education chief. He wrote the following interview asking Administrator Willie Molini the questions. He stated that Willie Molini's answers to the questions were in an unedited form Now really, do you believe that? Willie is his boss. At any rate, HUNTER'S ALERT wants to comment on some of the responses by Administrator Molini
EDITORIAL
When the weak link is at the top, nothing works right below. This is particularly true of two state agencies, those being the Division of Wildlife and Attorney General's Office. In our lead story we told you how a good NDOW employee, Barton Tanner, was set up by his fellow employees, wardens Dennis Roden and Frank Chaves. The director of the Conservation and Natural Resources Department is Pete Morros. He was quoted in the Elko Daily Free Press as saying, "Roden and Chaves marked the fox three days before the season." Nothing could be further from the truth. In court documents, it is clearly stated that the fox was reported to be in the trap on December 18. Opening day of fox season is December 19. Warden Roden marked the fox on December 19. That is not three days but one day. When the head of a state agency doesn't know the facts how can the Division of Wildlife make informed judgments on this or any other case? With his statement, Mr. Morros proves the weak link is at the top.
BAD NEWS WILLIE MOLINI COST SPORTSMEN $330,000 IN ANOTHER LAWSUIT!
"How low can youF go?" was a question that Chubby Checker asked in his hit record, "Limbo Rock". The same question could be asked of Nevada Division of Wildlife (NDOW). Their latest antics reek of gestapo tactics and were directed against one of their own employees.
GOOD NEWS! WILLIE MOLINI TO RETIRE IN SEPTEMBER
The timing of this announcement enables Governor Miller and Pete Morros to appoint a new administrator before the new governor takes office next January. Let's see, Molini retires in September, the gubernatorial election takes place in November, and the new governor is seated in January. I guess they figured the sportsmen in the state of Nevada aren't smart enough to figure this out. The 3M Destroyers (Miller, Morros. and Molini) were smart enough to realize one thing, that no other governor would put up with Willie Molini's antics. Rest assured. Miller and Morros will appoint a Willie Molini clone to the vacated position.
